FlexPDX

A Portland, OR. Adobe Flex User Group

I'm wondering if there's a page that could be created on FlexPDX specifically designed for job postings. I understand the importance of these postings, but I honestly feel the forums are the wrong place. Do I really need a job in Bangalore? Thanks for asking, but no. Do I want those postings to eat up the latest activity on main page, absolutely not.

I think there's a big difference in active participants trying to put together projects, jobs, and other stuff with other members (which I've seen, and totally support), and "members" who "join" just to dive bomb the site with jobs offers. I feel these "floods" diminish the value of the forums and make it difficult to interact with other flex developers.

Am I wrong here?

I think this issue could be resolved with just a couple of changes to the site, here's my suggestion:

* Some kind of "I'm a recruiter" checkbox attached to the user profile. I think this might actually help out both developers and recruiters, and perhaps promote informed communication between the two groups without creating an "us versus them" mentality.
* A specific job posting area.

Thoughts?

I am with you. Took care of it for now. We want to discourage hiring firms advertising jobs on this site. I think it's okay if you are working in a company and looking for a flex developer and post an inquiry on the site to see if anyone is intersted. But, for mass postings of jobs, we need to come up with other ways as you suggested. I'll try to find out what NING can offer in terms of those features.
