Hi, Reggie! Thanks for welcoming me to the group. I've been running a Flex study group the past year and we've just been doing little projects to learn more. I need to buckled down with the practice exams and see where I stand. Been using Moock's AS3 book and took some Fig Leaf training.

How about you? Any materials that you're finding helpful?

Not yet, but soon. Main tool is a package called SuperCollider. We can send data to the SuperCollider engine from anything that can speak a protocol called Open Sound Control (OSC). So far we've got a couple of prototypes with Java, and looking control how the sonification engine runs from a Flex dashboard.

Hi Reggie,

Thanks for the welcome. I'm a freelancer and have been doing almost exclusively Flex/php/sql lately. I'm a bit of a newbie, but I can usually make things work. I'm looking forward to seeing what others around portland are doing and see if I can learn to do things more elegantly.

I'm sorry I missed the January meeting. Will there be another soon?

I find that AS 3.0 is still lacking some OO features, like method overloading and no real support for Abstract classes. Of course there are the work arounds, but I'm hopeful that in time these these holes will be filled. Other than that I must say that Flex has a seriously robust event system in place.

You got a nice call out for Spatial Key:

I'm curious to see it work. Maybe you can demo it next meeting.

Reggie,

thanks, I'm glad you found it interesting. Flex is quite an amazing environment.

FlexPDX UG Meeting: Module Madness Challenge #1

Module Madness Challenge #1

Are you any good at Tic-Tac-Toe? Is there really any way win? Does it depend on who goes first, a winning strategy or, is it just random chance?

Take the mathematical representation of a Tic-Tac-Toe board:

11 12 13
21 22 23
31 32 33

where 11 represents the top left "spot", 33 represents the lower right "spot", etc.

Here's your challenge! Given two arrays, "ownedByX" and "ownedByO" write an ActionScript function the defines "your turn". The function should return… Continue

MAX '08 Review

Lots of cool stuff! Lots on Flash Catalyst (formally "thermo"), Gumbo, and more. I'm jumping on the plane home right now, so I'll give a more complete update later. Overall, great show.

Right, sorry, it's taking a bit to get back into the swing of things.

First, let me give a little background on the company I work for, Universal Mind. We're a distributed company with employees spread out all over the world. Each year, UM sends ALL of it… Continue

Doug's blog talks about it.

A place for job postings?

I'm wondering if there's a page that could be created on FlexPDX specifically designed for job postings. I understand the importance of these postings, but I honestly feel the forums are the wrong place. Do I really need a job in Bangalore? Thanks for asking, but no. Do I want those postings to eat up the latest activity on main page, absolutely not.

I think there's a big difference in active participants trying to put together projects, jobs, and other stuff with other members (which I'… Continue
